1951 I looked like Johnny Depp in the Ed Woods movie,
in my white Angora sweater. We lived on Narragansett Street in
Cranston, Rhode Island, right next to the Naval Base on the Sound.
It was a large haunted looking house with lots of bedrooms, a
sun room and window seats.
Bridget, my Stepmother, and my Father had 2 sons together,
David and Ahmed. My Sister Penny who was about eleven years old,
and myself about thirteen, fought all the time, with each other
and Bridget, who was a true paranoid schizophrenic. She taught
me to duck and cover, especially when she would change temperaments
in a flash, from tender to violent.....and I was her favorite........she
would buy me the most beautiful, expensive clothes then, run
upstairs to my closet with a scissor and cut them up, the up
side was I was not her target that particular day.
Meanwhile my Father was hardly ever home, he worked long hours
for Yale Trucking, where he was the Manager.
Once she threw my sister Penney through a third story window,
but a screen saved her from falling..We learned to move fast
as Bridget (real name Barbara Carol from Worster, MASS.) would
explode suddenly, like the day she threw a pan of hot fat at
us or the day she tossed milk bottles, they were empty though.
Another time our Boxer dog named Baron, cut his paws on a
glass window Bridget tried to throw my sister thru........the
was dark red blood all over the stairway, living room and kitchen
